It's All About My Story

Hello, world! My name is Philip Mathew, and I have been drawing and painting professionally since 2003. I was trained by Mr Sachin Nath, the prominent artist from Pune. Apart from teaching me how to draw and paint professionally, he also taught me the essentials and how to make detailed observations in art. I have conducted several painting exhibitions in and around Pune City, and have had reasonable success in the field of painting.

Turning Point

Once a friend of mine suggested that I try my hand at caricature, and although I did hesitate at first, I ended up giving it a go. Looking back, that was probably the best decision that I have ever made for my career. So that is how I began my career in caricature, by starting to draw at “The Irish Village” at Koregaon Park, Pune.

In the early days, my caricatures were more like portraits; I gradually started evolving my style of caricature, by observing and learning caricatures from the great maestros, both in real life and the internet. YouTube has really helped me in understanding the different styles of art done all around the globe. Soon, I developed my own unique style of caricature, which consists of elements drawn from all of my inspirations combined with my very own unique style.

I started making caricatures from October 2013, and since then, I have completed 3,000 artworks, each one of them a caricature of a different individual! Moreover, I have done caricatures of numerous celebrities and reference photos as well. People are usually able to easily identify caricatures of celebrities. At the same time, it is exhilarating to make caricatures of common people. The places I have worked include restaurants like Texas Tower, Carnival and Irish village, The Corinthians Club, Pune, etc., just to name a few. In addition to this, I have completed more than 22 events to date, which include birthday parties, engagement parties, flea markets, etc. Going forward, I would like to be known as a premium caricature artist in Pune, and Maharashtra.
